I love working with WordPress. It’s a great content management system (er, blog). Setup the permalinks properly, install the plugins you need, and you’re ready to start building a great website. However, the biggest problem with multiple websites, setting them up doing the same config over and over again, downloading and installing the same plugins. WP-Hive allows you to setup one blog, then point new domains at the site, make a few changes in the backend, and VIOLA! you’ve got a new site up and running.

Thank you WP-HIVE! You’re a dream come true.

One of my website just generated it’s first revenue today. $2 from a few ad clicks. Yeah, I know, nothing to do backflips over, but it’s a start.

There’s a nice affiliate program on that site that will pay out $25 CPA, and I’m optimistic it will be generating some income from that once the spiders find it and it improves it’s rankings.

But it made me wonder…

Would you rather have one site that made $100 a day, or 50 sites that make $2 a day each?

One site would be easier to manage, but it really stinks when you have all of your eggs in one basket and you drop the basket. WordPress is a bear to keep updated, but I’m wondering if I couldn’t run all of my sites with one install of WordPress MU? They’re all hosted on the same managed server, so how come I have to re-install wordpress everytime I setup a new site?

Think of all of the words that didn’t exist 10 or 20 years ago… “Labradoodle”, Blogger, even phrases we take for granted every day like “texting” are relatively new words.

Google can be a tough nut to crack when a term is competitive, but if you happento stumble upon a “new” word, you can get in early and ride the wave – if the new word becomes popular.

For example, I saw a news story about a new company named livethesource which launched today. Maybe… just maybe… this will become a well-known company. If so, maybe putting up a new site about this company would be a prudent move. We’ll see The key is to keep your eyes and ears open for “the next big thing”.

I sat down today and took a few steps in getting my “new internet business” off the ground.

My EIN has been in hand since April 22, 2009, and I did setup multiple profiles for Firefox the other day to help keep my “old business” and my “new business” separate. I also setup a new Gmail Account for the new business – this is important because I need a separate adwords account for my new company.

Today I setup a new domain name for the business, “prairieoakmedia.com”, which was done minutes after setting up a new Godaddy account.

My next step was to create a domain alias for my primary domain and then forward that to my Gmail account.

Just for grins, I thought I’d go ahead and sign up for my new adwords account, but then I read online that you can’t get an adwords account for a new domain… the site must be finished and up and running for six months! DOH! This would cause problems!

However, I received the following email about TWO HOURS after signing up for Adwords:

Congratulations!

Your Google AdSense application has been approved. You can now activate
your account and get started with AdSense in minutes.

Not bad for a Saturday afternoon.
